Camera-based measurement of relative image contrast in projection displays

International audience; This research investigated the measured contrast of projection displays based on pictures taken by un-calibrated digital cameras under typical viewing conditions. A high-end radiometer was employed as a reference to the physical response of projection luminance. Checkerboard, gray scale and color complex test images with a range of the projector's brightness and contrast settings were projected. Two local and two global contrast metrics were evaluated on the acquired pictures. Orthoscopic long-focal-depth 3D integral imaging

Integral imaging systems are imaging devices that provide 3D images of 3D objects. When integral imaging systems work in their standard configuration the provided reconstructed images are pseudoscopic; that is, are reversed in depth. In this paper we present, a technique for formation of real, undistorted, orthoscopic integral images by direct pickup. The technique is based on the use of a proper relay system and a global mapping of pixels of the elemental-images set. Simulated imaging experiments are presented to support our proposal.

Facet braiding: a fundamental problem in integral imaging.

2007

A rigorous explanation of a phenomenon that produces significant distortions in the three-dimensional images produced by integral imaging systems is provided. The phenomenon, which we refer to as the facet-braiding effect, has been recognized in some previous publications, but to our knowledge its nature has never been analyzed. We propose a technique for attenuating the facet-braiding effect. We have conducted experiments to illustrate the consequences of the facet-braiding effect on three-dimensional integral images, and we show the usefulness of the proposed technique in eliminating this effect.

HDR image generation from LDR image with highlight removal

The emergency of High Dynamic Range (HDR) display device impels the study of generating HDR image from Low Dynamic Range (LDR) image. Most existing generation methods apply complicated handing to highlight areas in image, which perplexes the algorithm and introduces the probability of generating artifacts. In this paper, we investigate a separated scheme: instead of sophisticated treatment to the highlight areas during expanding, the processing to the highlight areas is separated from the dynamic range expansion, which facilitates the framework and reduces the artifacts. The PLVC display color characterization model revisited

This work proposes a study of the Piecewise Linear assuming Variation in Chromaticity (PLVC) dis- play color characterization model. This model has not been widely used as the improved accuracy compared with the more common PLCC (Piecewise Linear assuming Chromaticity Constancy) model is not significant for CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) display technology, and it requires more computing power than this model. Transparent conducting metal oxides (TCOs) combine the properties of optical transparency in the visible region with a high electrical conductivity. They are a critical component as the window electrode in liquid crystal and electroluminescent display devices, as well as in many designs of solar cells now under development. Sn-doped In2O3 is currently the most important TCO, but it suffers from some drawbacks. A Novel Zeolite-Induced Population of a Planar Viologen Conformation. New Viologen Charge Transfer Complexes and Alkene/Viologen/Zeolite Arrays

A rare example of a novel zeolite-induced conformational change and a mechanism for this process are suggested in order to rationalize an unexpected spontaneous intrazeolite reduction observed during preparation of a new viologen (MQ2+)-doped zeolite (NaY). In addition, the formations of six new alkene/viologen/ zeolite charge transfer (CT) arrays using NaMQY and the previously reported NaMVY are also reported. The binding constants between MQ2+ and MV2+ and 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene (TME) were determined using the Benesi-Hildebrand approach, and the stabilities of these CT complexes are compared to their intrazeolite analogue.

<title>Fiber optical intensity-ratio refractometer with digital display</title>

Simplicity, cost efficiency, and higher fidelity compared to the single-channel design are the main advantages stimulating the recent interest on fiber optic intensity-ratio sensors. Optical and electronic designs of refractometric sensors of this kind are discussed here. Two optical schemes of retroreflective probes with one input and two output fibers are proposed. The probe sensitivity to liquid refractivity changes in the interval 1.33 < n < 1.41 is studied by computer simulation. An originally developed one-ADC-based signal processing circuit providing digital display of the intensity-ratio determined n-values is described as well.

Browser independent content based image resizing for liquid web layouts

A typical problem for webdesigners is to realize pages that can be potentially accessed from a number of display devices with different screen sizes and resolutions. Liquid layouts can help for this purpose. However, they can not typically be applied to images, which need to be rescaled or deformed. In both cases usability could be deteriorated. Content-aware image resizing techniques can help for this goal by rescaling the images to the desired width while preserving important image structures. A geometrical approach for inverting display color-characterization models

— Some display color-characterization models are not easily inverted. This work proposes ways to build geometrical inverse models given any forward color-characterization model. The main contribution is to propose and analyze several methods to optimize the 3-D geometrical structure of an inverse color-characterization model directly based on the forward model. Both the amount of data and their distribution in color space is especially focused on.
